MC Tested: Alpinestars Scout Waterproof Boots

Diplomatically presented as all-weather touring boots, Alpinestars' Scout WPs are just as good a match on a long-travel trail bike as an Öhlins-equipped naked. Made of full-grain leather bonded with a waterproof membrane, the Scouts follow Alpinestars' tradition of being instantly comfortable and flexible enough for easy walking. Their tall design, triple latches and internally molded shins, toes and heel counters give a higher sense of security than typical street clogs, without obfuscating shift lever and brake pedal feel. Plus they're slim enough to be worn inside or outside of your jeans or riding pants, making them great all-rounders no matter what or where you ride.

I baptized a pair of Scouts in a variety of conditions on the road and in the dirt. In the rain the unidentified waterproof membrane does its job as advertised, keeping my feet dry and toasty for the entire duration of my rides. Off-road the boots don't offer moto-spec fortification, but they're not as heavy either, and are ideal for dual-sport riding where you need protection plus comfort and walk-ability. The clincher was a trip to the wintry local mountains, where the lugged soles and tall mid-calf design proved perfect for stomping through snowdrifts.

The Alpinestars Scout WPs cost a pretty penny, but they're made of quality materials and are robustly constructed, so I trust I'll be tromping around in them for quite some time. Two big toes up!
