Report Receipt Date: July 11, 2016
NHTSA Campaign Number: 16E061000
Component(s): Seats
Potential Number of Units Affected: 111
Manufacturer: Bombardier Recreational Products Inc.

THE RECALL: Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) is recalling certain Coast to Coast accessory passenger seats, manufactured from November 18, 2015, to April 4, 2016, and sold for use on Can-Am Spyder F3-series three-wheeled motorcycles. When a passenger is sitting on the accessory seat, the seat may not activate the pillion switch that changes the vehicle stability system to compensate for a passenger being on board.

WHAT COULD HAPPEN: If the vehicle stability system is not altered, the operator may lose control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The pillion switch is not activated when a passenger is on the Coast to Coast accessory seat (shown here). In some circumstances with a passenger on the vehicle, this situation may result in a loss of control.©Motorcyclist

THE FIX: BRP has notified owners, and dealers will modify the seat to correct the issue, free of charge. The recall began July 22, 2016. Owners may contact BRP customer service at 1-888-272-9222.
