2010 Husqvarna WR Review


The Swedish manufacturer Husqvarna began producing motorcycles as early as 1903. The company has a long and storied tradition of manufacturing highly regarded off-road motorcycles. At one point, their lightweight, two-stroke engine designs made competing British four-stroke models obsolete. While four-stroke designs have made a comeback since the late 1990s, Husqvarna still makes a two-stroke line, as represented by the WR Series. The 2010 Husqvarna WR Series includes the WR125, the WR250, and the WR300. The manufacturer intends these bikes for off-road use only.

The 2010 Husqvarna WR125 occupies a once common, but currently under-served niche market: the 125cc, two-stroke Enduro bike category. The roots of this design go back quite a long time, and these models are known for delivering excellent performance, especially in the hands of riders who are knowledgeable about the bike's tuning and handling. While somewhat lacking in mid-range power, the Husqvarna WR125 is noted for having excellent low-end torque for a motorcycle of its type and adequate power at open throttle.

First produced in 1969, the Husqvarna WR250 is one of the longest-running and most popular models in the manufacturer's lineup. The bike has received many updates over the years, but still bears the unmistakable spirit of its predecessors. Its two-stroke motor has a recognizable, signature sound and produces plenty of power for savvy riders. As with most modern Husqvarna motorcycles, the handling is nimble and quick.

Once only available as a transformation kit for the venerable Husqvarna WR250, the Husqvarna WR300 became a production model in 2008. It has everything that motorcycle enthusiasts love about the WR250, only it features even more power. Capable of competing against larger four-stroke rivals due to its powerful two-stroke engine design, the Husqvarna WR300 is an excellent choice for riders who prefer a two-stroke design but want a competitive, Enduro-ready machine.

For 2010, the entire Husqvarna WR model line has been updated with In-mold Plastic Decoration (IPD), a body panel molding technique that makes the graphics part of the body panels, giving them greater durability than stickers. The plastic panels themselves are made of lighter, stronger, more flexible plastics than the material used during the 2009 model year.

For the 2010 model year, the Husqvarna WR125’s frame was reinforced at critical points. The Husqvarna WR250 and 300 received suspension improvements in the form of closed-cartridge inverted Kayaba front forks, and new triple clamps, which are designed to offer a better balance between flex and rigidity. The exhaust pipes on all three of these WR Series models were completely redesigned, using lessons taken from the World Championships.
