2009 Yamaha Roadliner Review


The Yamaha Roadliner is the tuning fork company's flagship motorcycle, as well as a previous award winner for best cruiser. The 2009 Yamaha Roadliner comes in two models, the Roadliner Midnight, and the Roadliner S. Both bikes utilize the same 113 cubic-inch, 1854cc, air-cooled 48-degree V-Twin with pushrod OHV, making for one of the most powerful and beautifully-built cruisers on the road.

The Yamaha Roadliner features an incredibly accurate throttle position sensor that ensures pitch-perfect fuel delivery through its Twin-Bore electronic fuel injection system. The bike's five-speed manual transmission with wet clutch is remarkably smooth, and its computer-controlled titanium EXUP power valve effectively regulates exhaust flow for superior torque and power, even at low engine speeds.

The 2009 Yamaha Roadliner's aluminum frame is reminiscent of the one used on the Japanese manufacturer's Road Star Warrior. It is nicely rigid, sturdy, and lightweight, all of which improve the bike's handling and performance. The front-end's 46mm telescopic fork suspension with 5.1 inches of travel, and rear-end's single shock with 4.3 inches of travel deliver a comfortably smooth ride on most surfaces, but the super-low profile of the bike can cause the bike to take bumpy roads a little harder than one might expect for a cruiser. The brakes, however, are excellent, with the dual 298mm hydraulic discs on front, and 320mm single hydraulic disc on the back, allowing uncompromised control and confidence.

The Yamaha Roadliner weighs in at 749 lbs. with a full tank of gas, but its low seat height of 27.8 inches is certainly accommodating to most experienced and shorter-statured riders. The bike has a generous 4.5 gallon flangeless, teardrop gas tank that holds enough gas to allow nearly 190 miles between fill ups, thereby allowing this ""cruiser"" to do its thing with minimal interruptions.

Visually, the 2009 Yamaha Roadliner is a stunning bike that sports a stylish Art Deco design. There's plenty of chrome to be found on the bike's exterior (many of the chrome attributes are blacked out on the Midnight), and the paint and detailing are among the industry's best. The super-wide sculpted seat and large-diameter handlebars offer the utmost in rider comfort, and the retro-styled instruments are as beautiful as they are easy to read. Adorning the gas tank is the old-fashioned analog speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge.

The 2009 Yamaha Roadliner Midnight is available in Raven Black with White flames on the side of the gas tank, while the Roadliner S is available in two color schemes – Light Gray Metallic, and Candy Red with flames.
