2009 Peirspeed R50X Review

The 2009 Peirspeed R50X is a motor scooter for the 2009 model year from Peirspeed, a United States-based importer and distributor of motorcycles from Taiwanese manufacturer Taiwan Golden Bee (TGB). The 2009 R50X is similar to the 2009 Peirspeed RM50 in that it is also named after its engine displacement, which is estimated at 49 cubic centimeters; this is why both bikes are classified as 49cc scooters. However, the R50X, unlike the RM50, is upgraded as a sports-oriented scooter. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the 2009 Peirspeed R50X is $2,599.

The 2009 Peirspeed R50X is powered by a single-cylinder two-stroke engine that generates 4.9 brake horsepower (bhp) at 7,500 revolutions per minute (RPM). It more than doubles the bhp of its model-year relative, the RM50. The R50X engine has an air cooler to cool down its hot parts and consequently prevent it from malfunctioning, and the Mikuni carburetor is especially useful during rides in cold weather. The R50X muffler integrates exhaust catalyst technology into the bike to cut down on air pollution.

A continuous variable transmission, or CVT, is paired with the engine on the 2009 Peirspeed R50X. A fully automatic gearbox, the CVT can shift through an infinite number of effective gear ratios. This means that the CVT allows the scooter’s engine to run at its most efficient RPM, thus promoting better fuel efficiency.

The 2009 Peirspeed R50X uses a rear-wheel drivetrain, which improves traction during acceleration due to weight transferred to the rear wheels. The scooter’s fuel tank has a peak gasoline capacity of 1.8 gallons, which permits a generous driving range. Based on its powertrain, the R50X is able to give a terrific fuel economy of 89 miles per gallon (mpg).

The 2009 Peirspeed R50X is available in several colors: red, black, blue, yellow and orange. The last two are tagged as ""Special Limited Edition"" and are thus in limited quantity. True to its sports orientation, each 2009 Peirspeed R50X has an aerodynamic front fender, halogen headlights, and sport bike-inspired taillights. For a stable, sporty ride, the R50X has inverted front shocks and dual coil-over rear shocks. Front and rear hydraulic disc brakes provide superior stopping power over scooters with regular front-disc rear-drum brake layouts.

A sturdy mono-frame construction and a two-passenger vinyl seat with a height of 31 inches promote easy scooter mounting. Front and rear fenders accentuate the 2009 Peirspeed R50X. At the front is a digital dash that includes a speedometer, clock, and an indicator for monitoring the scooter’s fuel level. The front and rear wheels are fitted on sturdy 13-inch aluminum wheels. Also included on the scooter are a cell phone charger port, rearview mirrors, and a helmet clip. Physical dimensions of the 2009 Peirspeed R50X include a length of 72 inches, a width of 25 inches, and a height of 44 inches.
