2009 Honda Shadow Review


In 2009, famed Japanese automaker Honda released two separate models of its Shadow brand, each with unique features to meet the varying needs of its consumer base. But while the 2009 Honda Shadow Aero and 2009 Honda Shadow Spring 750 have slightly different specifications, each provides a one-of-a-kind riding experience once the wheels hit the road.

The 2009 Honda Shadow has one of the most powerful looks of any bike on the market, thanks to its sleek steel frame and plastic cruising body type. This bike is built with more experienced riders in mind, with the Shadow Aero weighing in at 503.5 pounds dry, and the Shadow Spring 750 even heavier at 519.4 pounds. Each model also has an imposing wheelbase, with the Shadow Aero measuring in at 64.5 inches, and the Shadow Spring 750 slightly larger at 65 inches. A seat height of 25.7 inches on the Shadow Aero, and 25.9 inches on the Shadow 750, gives the rider a clear view of the road ahead of him.

Beyond its size, the 2009 Honda Shadow also has a powerful engine, creating an intimidating presence while on the road. The Shadow comes equipped with a four-stroke, 745cc, V-Twin engine, which is liquid cooled and has a 9.6:1 compression ratio and 3.11 x 2.99 inch bore and stroke. A five-speed manual transmission allows riders to maneuver in and out of traffic at a comfortable speed.

While the engine undoubtedly packs a punch, the 2009 Honda Shadow’s suspension and steering allow for a smooth ride when the wheels hit the pavement. The motorcycle’s telescopic fork front end suspension and 4.6-inch front travel, combined with its twin-sided swing arm suspension and 3.5-inch rear travel, creates a balanced drive. Not to mention that a pair of rear shock absorbers helps the rider handle even the toughest road conditions. Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes allow the Shadow to make smooth stops, even when cruising at top speeds.

In addition to the suspension and steering, the bike’s wheels and tires also help the rider to handle rugged road conditions. The Shadow is equipped with a 120/90 R17 front tire and a rear 160/80 R15 tire, as well as a pair of chrome tubed wheels. In terms of wheel size, the Shadow Aero and Shadow Sprint 750 vary in measurement, with the Aero’s front wheel checking in at 17 inches, compared to the slightly larger Spring 750 front wheel, which is 21 inches. Meanwhile, both the Shadow Aero and Shadow Sprint 750 each have a rear tire width of 15 inches.

Beyond its look and feel, the 2009 Honda Shadow also has a number of features which enhance the rider’s experience. The bike comes with exterior side covers, as well as a kickstand and driver and passenger foot pegs. A standard trip odometer keeps the rider on track to reach his or her destination on time, and a speedometer also ensures that the driver isn’t exceeding legal speed limits. For safety’s sake, front and rear fenders create an extra measure of security.
