2008 Hyosung Sense Review

Hyosung Corp., via its motorcycle manufacturing arm S&T; Motors, released the Hyosung Sense scooter in 2007. For the 2008 model year, its second year in production, the Sense received no changes from its South Korean manufacturer, except its price. The manufacturer""s suggested retail price, or MSRP, of the Sense was reduced: from $1,399 to $1,299.

The 2008 Hyosung Sense is officially referred to as the 2008 Hyosung Sense SD50, with the number ""50"" representing the engine""s 49-cubic centimeter (cc) displacement. (The displacement is rounded up to 50 cc.) The engine on the 2008 Sense is a two-stroke air-cooled single-cylinder engine. It uses a reed intake valve configuration, and it relies on a 14-millimeter carburetor to fuel it. The bore and stroke of the 2008 Sense engine is measured at 1.61 by 1.47 inches (41 by 37.4 millimeters), and it has a 7.4-to-1 compression ratio.

Each 2008 Hyosung Sense engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission, which is also known as a CVT. It is a distinctive type of automatic transmission that can shift through an unlimited number of gears to make the engine operate more efficiently, and in turn increase its fuel efficiency. Each 2008 Sense has a fuel tank that can hold up to 1.3 gallons (4.8 liters).

For its stopping power, the 2008 Hyosung Sense uses a front disc brake and a rear disc brake. Although it is not as effective as an all-wheel disc brake layout, the front-disc-brake rear-disc-brake method is more effective than all-wheel drum brakes. For the suspension, the 2008 Hyosung Sense has a telescopic fork at the front and a single-sided swing arm with shock absorber at the back for making the ride smoother, especially on rougher roads. Ten-inch aluminum wheels are fitted on each scooter.

Each 2008 Hyosung Sense is made of steel to give the scooter a significant amount of sturdiness. Classified as a half-fairing bike – it only has a lower fairing – the 2008 Sense has the customary fenders and a parking stand. The two-piece vinyl seat on the scooter can handle up to two people.

For digital instrumentation, each 2008 Hyosung Sense has a speedometer and fuel level warning gauge. For storage space, Hyosung provided a rear rack; and under-seat, lockable and helmet storage. Also included are a halogen headlight and a pair of side mirrors for enhanced visual perception during driving.

The 2008 Hyosung Sense measures 70.1 inches (1,780 mm) in length, 26 inches (660 mm) in width and 41.6 inches (1,065 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 48.1 inches (1,221 mm). Ground clearance and seat height for the Sense scooter are measured at 4.4 inches (112 mm) and 29.8 inches (756 mm), respectively. The dry weight of the 2008 Sense is 174.1 lbs. (79 kilograms).

Hyosung released quite a lot of scooters for the 2008 model year, most of which shared the same components. However, the 2008 Sense was one of the higher-end ones, slightly ahead of others like the Exceed, Prima, and Rally. Although not the absolute scooter the market had to offer in 2008, the 2008 Sense is good enough for a purchase.
