2007 Piaggio MP3 Review

Intro

Distinctive for its “three wheeler” design--two small wheels in the front and a third small wheel at the back--the Piaggio MP3 was introduced by Italian automaker Piaggio in 2006. Its successor, the 2007 Piaggio MP3, presented no changes to the inaugUral iteration. In addition to the three-wheel layout, it stuck to one model, which would triple in number within the next five years.

The 2007 Piaggio MP3 is also referred to as the Piaggio MP3 250 due to its engine displacement, which is 244.3 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 250). The engine is a 4-stroke four-valve-per cylinder single-cylinder unit that has a bore and stroke measured at 2.8 by 2.4 inches. It generates 22.5 horsepower at 8,250 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 15.5 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque at an RPM of 6,750. An electric kick-starter and a fuel-injected Magneti Marelli carburetor are introduced for rapid engine ignition; this ability is especially essential for times of cold weather.

The engine of the 2007 Piaggio MP3 is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which has the ability to pick from an unlimited number of effective gears to make the engine run at its utmost efficiency. The result is improved fuel economy, which is measured at a range of 60 to 65 miles per gallon (mpg) on a peak fuel capacity of 3.2 gallons. In terms of speed, the ‘07 Piaggio MP3 can peak at 77 miles per hour.

The 2007 Piaggio MP3 comes as a gray or black bike, and it combines a sturdy steel frame with imposing plastic covering. The bike uses front and rear disc brakes, as opposed to the traditional front-disc rear-drum layout, for enhanced braking. Its wheels, made of aluminum, consist of a pair of 12-inch ones in the front and a third 12-inch one at the back. The digital dashboard of the ‘07 Piaggio MP3 consists of a clock, tachometer, trip odometer, trip computer, speedometer, and temperature warning and fuel level indicators. Also included are rearview mirrors and halogen headlights for enhanced visibility and lighting.

Each 2007 Piaggio MP3 has a length of 84 inches and width of 29.3 inches, with a wheelbase of 58.6 inches and seat height of 30.7 inches. The dry weight is measured at 449.7 lbs. Piaggio gives a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $6,999 for each ‘07 MP3.
