2005 Kawasaki ZRX Review

The 2005 Kawasaki ZRX represents the fifth model year of the standard motorcycle, as well as its production mid-point (it was produced from 2001 to 2008). For the 2005 model year, the ZRX was available as just one model: the ZRX 1200R. Designed as a racing-oriented bike with more-than-adequate power and solid handling and braking, it is named after the displacement of its engine, measured at 1,164 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 1,200). The manufacturer’s suggested retail price was set at $8,199.

The engine that powers the 2005 Kawasaki ZRX is a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, four-cylinder unit. It is fueled by four 36-millimeter (mm) Keihin carburetors and has a total of 16 intake valves (four on each cylinder.) The engine has a bore and stroke of 79 x 59.4 mm (3.11 x 2.34 inches) and a compression ratio of 10.1 to 1. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, with a chain guard to complete the powertrain. Each 2005 Kawasaki ZRX has a 5.3-gallon (20.1-liter) tank for storing fuel.

The 2005 Kawasaki ZRX relies on an all-wheel disc brake system. It comprises a 12.2-inch (310-mm) dual hydraulic disc at the front and a 9.8-inch (250-mm) disc at the back. The suspension consists of a 1.7-inch (43-mm) telescopic fork and twin-sided aluminum swing arm with two shock absorbers.

Kawasaki used a steel frame for the 2005 Kawasaki ZRX, and placed a plastic shell over its upper body. Finishing off the body with front and rear fenders, Kawasaki painted each bike with a Candy Lime Green color scheme. A one-piece vinyl seat provides seating for the driver and a passenger, and a kick stand provides the ability to virtually park the bike anywhere.

Each 2005 Kawasaki ZRX has instrumentation that consists of a tachometer, trip odometer, speedometer, temperature warning light, and fuel level warning gauge. Also included are a windshield for deflecting wind and debris, and a halogen and set of rearview mirrors for enhancing the driver’s visual perception.

Each 2005 Kawasaki ZRX has a length of 83.5 inches (2,121.4 mm), width of 30.7 inches (779.8 mm), height of 45.3 inches (1,150.6 mm), and wheelbase of 57.7 inches (1,465.6 mm). Its ground clearance and seat height are measured at 5.3 inches (134.6 mm) and 31.1 inches (789.9 mm), respectively. The dry weight of the 2005 ZRX is estimated at 492 lbs. (223.2 kilograms).
