Monster Energy Kawasaki/ Jones Brothers Racing’s Wiles Dominates Springfield Short Track

Irvine, Calif. (September 5, 2011) – Monster Energy Kawasaki/Jones Brothers Racing's Henry Wiles ended the singles flat track season with an impressive win aboard his Kawasaki KX™450F at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill. After getting past four red flags that all resulted in a complete restart, Wiles was able to overcome for a season-tying third win. While Wiles had to sit out most of the AMA Flat Track singles season due to injury, he was still able finish fourth in the series. Also showing speed was Kawasaki rider Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. who scored a heat win early in the night and went on to finish sixth in the main event. Monster Energy Kawasaki/Werner-Springsteen rider Shaun Russell finished 15th.

Fifth Consecutive Win
With his impressive win, Wiles now has raced to five consecutive victories at the Springfield short track. The night wasn't easy for the No. 17, but after five total starts from pole position, Wiles was able to put together 25 solid laps for his third win of the season.

“I have always had great luck with pulling holeshots on my Kawasaki KX450F and tonight was no different,” said Wiles. “I’m able to get the power to the ground and get into the first turn ahead of the pack. When we finally got going, I was in second and wanted to be smart about making a pass. I knew that I was faster because whenever he would try and gap me, I was able to pull him close. It felt like we were going forever before I could make the pass, but I think that’s the nature of the short track. From there I just tried to be smart and didn’t look back.”

Coming On Strong
For Coolbeth, the night started just how he needed it to with a commanding heat race win. During the first start of the main, Coolbeth was right behind Wiles, but after the multiple red flags, Coolbeth wasn't able to make his way back up to the front and settled for sixth.

“The last red flag was the worst for me and everyone dive-bombed me in the first few turns,” said Coolbeth. “After that I wasn’t able to ride my own race or hit my marks. All in all it was alright. The switch to Kawasaki this year has been great. Chaplin Kawasaki has been really supportive and I’m already looking forward to next year on the 2012 Kawasaki KX450F.”

Singles Season Wrap Up
With the GNC Singles season completed, Kawasaki was able to capture victories at four of the nine races between Wiles and Coolbeth. After the points were tallied, Wiles finished fourth in the points and Coolbeth was just behind him in fifth.

“It’s tough to hand over the number one plate to someone else, but I was able to still get three wins,” said Wiles. “Finishing fourth in points isn’t bad since I missed a few rounds because of my injury. It’s nice to know I still have it after a bad injury to my knee and now we can come back next season for the title.”
