2008 QLINK Legacy Review


There was a time, not too long ago, when learning to ride a motorcycle was a baptism by fire. If you wanted to ride a real motorcycle, and not some glorified scooter, you needed to just hop on and figure it out, however painful or embarrassing that process might be. The 2008 QLINK Legacy may well be the bike that changes all that.

In a way, the 2008 QLINK Legacy is really the perfect motorcycle for people who don’t ride motorcycles, or at least, haven’t done a lot of riding so far. In other words, if you’re a beginner, but still want to look great riding a bike, the 2008 QLINK Legacy is a great choice. It’s a beautiful looking bike, with modern feel combined with a classic style, but its fully automatic transmission makes it extremely easy to ride.

The 2008 QLINK Legacy, with a lightweight, 244cc 4-stroke engine, is a great bike to give as a gift for your wife or riding-age child who is discovering bikes for the first time. The liquid-cooled engine makes this bike extremely reliable, and the adjustable brake levers make it easier for riders for all sizes to find comfortable brake grips for a more confident ride. Reliable front and rear disc brakes increase safety, another desirable feature for new riders.

The opening price tag of $3250 makes the Legacy a terrific choice for people who are just starting out with bikes and aren’t sure yet just how much of an investment they want to make in motorcycle riding. But just because the QLINK Legacy is affordable doesn’t mean it skimps on the features. On the QLINK Legacy, you’ll find a nice amount of under seat storage with a tool kit containing wrenches and a screwdriver, built-in FM radio, and even a USB port for playing downloaded music from your iPod, computer, or MP3 player.

The Legacy’s engine, which can generate 18 horsepower and 17.6 lb-ft of torque, can get up to a reasonable speed, and you can take it out on the highway if you want to, but it’s definitely not a speed demon, and is more comfortable on local roads. Again, for someone just getting accustomed to riding a motorcycle, this may be ideal. The Legacy features a telescopic oil-damped front suspension and a twin shock rear suspension, and can get up over 55 mph, but won’t go much faster than that, especially with heavier riders.

Even if you want to ride what can best be classified as a beginner’s bike, you don’t want to look like a beginner. That’s sort of the point of finding a bike that you’re comfortable riding. Another nice thing about the legacy is that it doesn’t look like a first bike. There’s a lot of plastic construction in the 2008 QLINK Legacy, a necessary function of the need to keep this bike lightweight and affordable despite the automatic transmission. However, the design is upscale enough that the Legacy does not look cheap at all, with strategically placed chrome that does a great job of dressing this bike up.

The 2008 QLINK Legacy isn’t for every rider. True motorcycle enthusiasts will probably balk at the idea of a motorcycle with an automatic transmission. But it isn’t only for beginners either. There’s enough here with the Legacy to keep casual riders and even experienced riders looking for something a little different interested. That being said, for someone who wants to get used to motorcycle riding before they tackle all that’s involved with working a clutch, you can’t do much better than the Legacy, especially at this price.
