2006 Honda 599 Review

When the 2006 Aprilia Tuono was introduced, Honda also brought out its 2006 Honda 599. It is far cheaper than the Tuono, but it is pricier than similar models from Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha. Honda surprised motorcycle enthusiasts with the apparent Italian touch on the 2006 Honda 599 model. This came about mainly because Honda also operated in Italy building scooters, dirt bikes and the 599 model.

The 2006 Honda 599 features a powerful 16-valve and liquid cooled 599cc motor. It is similar to the 2004 599 model with its 86 HP back wheel. It is a bit old-fashioned in some ways, but the 6-speed gear box along with the cable clutch covers it all up. Major revisions from the 2004 599 model include the more efficient inverted design with a better and sportier front fender and cartridge internals to completed the package. There is also a new steering stem and clamp that holds the 41mm fork legs about 10mm away from each other. The additional gusseting around the steering head was due to the more rigid fork.

The 2006 Honda 599 never failed to impress riders. The enhancements made a big difference in its functions without adding more bulk and weight. There is an extra 0.2-inches in the wheelbase that make the 599 the best choice for twisty roads. Riders appreciated 599’s cornering abilities. The new and improve fork make the performance a lot better. With this, the bike is able to cope with the bumps whether it is running in a straight line or leaned over.

Only a few tweaks need to be made to the 599cc engine so that it complies with the 2008 CARB standards. Another stunning feature is the system that shuts fuel off as the bike decelerates. This is because of the 34mm flat-side carburetor that was fitted into the system.

Moreover, the 2006 model has more attractive instruments than its predecessors. The more upscale cockpit and the mini-cowl are just a few of them. There is also an analog tachometer and gauge. The digital speedometer is easier to read than the older model that caused a glare when read under direct light. This was among the most common complaints from 2004 Honda 599 model owners. The excellent headlight is made with a polycarbonate lens, cast-aluminum reflector and two single-filament 55-watt 11 bulbs. According to Honda, it provides 60 percent better illumination. The 2006 Honda 599 also boasts a high-mount exhaust pipe and 16,000 mile valve serve intervals.

With a seat height of 31.1 inches, even female drivers and newbies can comfortably and confidently ride on this bike. Some long-legged drivers may not find this model comfortable. They are more likely to get creaky knees if they ride on it for interstate touring. Its short seat to peg distance can be a disadvantage to taller drivers. It is also only available in metallic black. The 2006 Honda 599 is a nicely finished and middleweight bike for everyone. Meanwhile, drivers who love to ride faster can expect a 14,000 RPM limit. This is not bad when compared to the previous model that was only 83.4 horsepower at 11,700 RPM.

The 2006 Honda 599 standard features include an aluminum grab rail and strap, clock, digital instrumentation, fuel level warning, oil pressure gauge, speedometer, tachometer, temperature warning and trip odometer. The seat is made of vinyl material that comes in a one-piece design that is perfect for the driver and one passenger. Unfortunately, this model lacks some additional features like bag liners, fork bags, front racks, hard side cases, helmet storage, leather storage, lockable storage, tail bags, tank bags, under seat storage and tank dividers.

The only drawback that comes with the 2006 Honda 599 is perhaps the price. Motorcycle enthusiasts find it pricier than its competitors. Despite this, Honda 599 offers all features that one needs in order to get around on twisty roads and bumpy surfaces. In fact, many owners say that the Honda 599’s specialty is to run over challenging pavement.
