Professional motorcycle roadracer Shelina Moreda is CoverGirl’s newest “famous face.” The self-proclaimed “small-town farm girl” joins household names Katy Perry, Drew Barrymore, Christie Brinkley, Rihanna, Ellen DeGeneres, Pink, and others as a spokesperson for the American makeup giant. Fellow non-actress/singer Massy Arias was also named today.

"Pro racing is a challenging profession—physically, mentally, and emotionally," said Moreda, who has competed in China, France, Japan, Qatar, and, of course, the US, where she was the first woman to race a motorcycle at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "I love what I do, and people are often surprised because the sport of racing is largely dominated by men.

"My partnership with CoverGirl shows the world that it's okay to have an active, yet powerful career and still value feeling pretty. I am happy to be able to encourage other people to unapologetically be themselves, pursue what they love, and share it with the world. It's okay that I'm a tomboy."

Moreda, who hails from Sonoma County, California, runs an all-female motorcycle skills school, She'z Moto Camp, that focuses on building confidence in girls to push past barriers and reach their individual goals. According to Moreda, 33 percent of new riders at her camp have gone on to purchase motorcycles.

“When I’m on the racetrack the only thing you can see are my eyes peering out of the helmet,” new CoverGirl ambassador Shelina Moreda says. “So that’s the part I especially love to play up.”CoverGirl

Diversity is the name of the game these days for CoverGirl. Sixty-nine-year-old Maye Musk—a lifelong model and mother of Elon Musk, the billionaire behind PayPal and Tesla—is the oldest ambassador. Last year, the iconic brand named high school senior James Charles as its first male spokesmodel.

“People have many varied interests that aren’t mutually exclusive,” CoverGirl Senior VP Ukonwa Ojo said. “This is an important element of diversity, and we should celebrate and encourage the freedom of expression that comes along with it. For us, makeup is a very powerful part of that expression.”
