Dainese Settantadue Collection Celebrates the Golden Era of Italian Motorsport

Look as cool as Giacomo Agostini.

Dainese leafed through its 1970s archives to introduce a quintessentially Italian line of gear that conjures images of one of the most stylish, iconic eras of two-wheeled motorsport.Dainese

If Imola 1972 encapsulates the time, then Dainese's new Settantadue (Italian for 72) line of gear pretty well brings its aesthetic to today's riders. I can almost smell the spilled Nastro Azzurro and Lucky Strikes.

To many, the ’70s remain the pinnacle of Italian superbike design. Just consider the following period machines: the Benelli 750 Sei, Ducati 900SS, Laverda 750 SFC, Moto Guzzi 750 S3, MV Agusta Magni 850, Bimota SB2, and Moto Morini 3 1/2 Sport. Add to that Italian racers like Agostini, Bruno Spaggiari, and Renzo Pasolini, who practically defined braggadocio and Italian cool, and there’s no denying the era as one of the golden ages of motorsport and style.

The new line includes jackets, pants, boots, gloves, and streetwear. There’s even a made-to-measure, customizable one-piece suit available that would be perfect for vintage racing. Check out some of the collection’s highlights below and be prepared to drool over acres of premium, supple leather.

Based on a period Dainese racing suit, the Toga72 features removable shoulder and elbow armor and printed cotton liner. (MSRP: $699.95)Dainese
The Piega72 leather riding pants have a classic silhouette and modern features such as a hidden connection system that will attach to any Settantadue jacket. (MSRP: $349.95)Dainese
The Patina72 jacket features supple drum-dyed leather and a hand-brushed finish, making no two exactly alike. No doubt it will live up to its name and get better with age as it breaks in. (MSRP: $1,099.95)Dainese
The Settantadue line features gear tailored especially for women, such as the Freccia72, a no-frills cowhide leather jacket. (MSRP: $599.95)Dainese
Like the Patina72, the Nera72 is about as classic as it gets. (MSRP: $499.95)Dainese
The collection has several gloves in the mix, including the Techno72 gauntlet, which marries modern features like polyurethane knuckle protectors with old-school superbiker looks. (MSRP: $169.95)Dainese
The Imola72 boots have that ’70s-era roadracing look and provide more protection than urban riding boots and look more discreet than modern technical boots. (MSRP: $379.95)Dainese
