2010 Vespa GTS Review

The name Vespa was actually an equated version of the word ""wasp"" because of its buzzing engine note sound and the bulbous shaped tail section. Vespa scooters, a cultUral icon, are in several ways equated to the Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Piaggio is the largest manufacturer of scooters in Europe and Vespa is its top small-wheel brand. The 2010 Vespa GTS scooters manufactured by Piaggio under the Vespa brand, come in different models, principal among them are The Vespa GTS 250 and the GTS 300. GTS is an acronym for Granturismo Sport.

The GTS models use variations of the new Quasar engine design. The engine has a displacement of 244 cc. Along with electronic fuel injection, the water-cooled motor also has four valves and a single overhead camshaft. The increased engine capacity, along with reduced emissions, gives a top speed of 118 km/h (about 73 mph.

The GTS 250 scooter was first introduced in 2006 in Europe. It was the first time fuel injection had ever been included in a Vespa scooter coupled with a larger engine and better handling, and the Vespa GTS 250 was one of the best scooters made by Vespa to date. The GTS 250ie was restyled from the Vespa GT200. Along with changes in the engine, the other changes were the digital gauges, a tachometer, chrome fender-crest, chrome horn grille, restyled rear fairings/taillight, chrome foldable rack, redesigned center stand, unpainted front suspension cover, and restyled seat. The fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and clock complete the instrumentation. The anti-theft ignition is very effectual and comes standard.

The 2010 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport has the performance and the finish quality to live up to its image. The 2010 Vespa GTS300 is an evolution of the GTS250 model and is the largest capacity Vespa scooter that has been made. The GTS300 is held together by a monoque chassis that makes for good handling and maneuverability. The 2010 GTS 300 is effectively packaged. The suspension is basic, with a non-adjustable mono-arm front shock and preload-adjustable rear twin shocks. The springs do a decent job and they provide a stable platform when riding in the city. It is stable despite the diminutive rims. The braking package comprises twin-piston calipers front and rear, with a single disc at the pointy end. They offer a reasonable feel and plenty of power and certainly enough for its intended usage. The CVT offers a non-fussy operation.

The 2010 Vespa GTS 300 runs on liquid-cooled engine with four valves. One of the important distinctions between the GTS 300 and the GTS 25O is that it does have an advantage with acceleration and with torque, which peaks lower down the rev range. Also another distinction is that the 3mm larger bore is accompanied by a 3mm longer stroke which bumps displacement from 244cc to 278cc. While claimed peak torque is only slightly higher, it comes at 5000 rpm as against 6500 for the GTS 250. With the restyling of the GTS300ie, the GTS250's fold-down tail rack was replaced with a simple grab-handle or loop. However, the fold-down tail rack is still available as an optional accessory, so as to allow the fitting of the tail-mounted storage box.

Tracing the history of the Vespa brand, it was initially created as a means of basic transportation for people after WWII. Sixty-four 64 years on, D'Ascanio's invention, the Vespa brand, has come full circle with its unmistakable character. It is still doing what it intended, getting people who are non-motorcyclists to get out and enjoy the fresh air and benefit from riding on two wheels.
