2010 Kawasaki Versys Review

Kawasaki introduced its Versys sport bike to Europe and Canada in 2006, but the motorcycle only went on sale in the United States in 2007 for the 2008 model, when it took the motorcycle world by storm, quickly winning accolades from motorcycle journalists. Motorcyclist magazine named the Versys the ""motorcycle of the year"" in 2008, noting, ""The most impressive thing about the Versys is what it can do. That would be just about anything."" The Japanese manufacturer also boasted the Versys made many top 10 lists around the world. This naked bike lives up to its name as Versys stands for ""versatile system."" Kawasaki says this motorcycle offers a ""unique combination of utility, versatility, affordability, and just plain fun."" The 2010 Versys can ride on any type of pavement, from city streets to freeways. It is not designed to be ridden offroad.

The Versys, available in black for 2010, was Kawasaki’s response to rider demand for a smaller, more versatile motorcycle. This makes it a good choice for entry-level riders as well as commuters, occasional racers, and those who want a fun ride on weekends. The 2010 model represents a major redesign from 2008. After the Versys’ debut, riders said they wanted more wind protection and less engine vibration. Kawasaki designed the 2010 model with a larger, adjustable windscreen for rider comfort and replaced the original foot pegs with rubber ones to cut down on vibration. The Versys wasn’t designed with speed in mind, though it has a top speed of 128 mph. Gas mileage estimates vary widely for this 649-cc motorcycle. While official estimates are not available, some riders say they get as much as 48 mpg while others report needing to refill the five-gallon gas tank every 150 miles or so.
