Powered by a 250cc, air-cooled, four-stroke SOHC engine that generates a modest 16 horsepower, the 2009 Suzuki TU250 is the ideal motorcycle for a beginner. It won’t win any drag races, but it makes for a relaxing ride. Once it reaches its fifth gear, the TU250 cruises along nicely. Suzuki chooses to go with a modern engineering solution by deciding to use fuel injection, rather than a carburetor. This choice improves the bike’s fuel efficiency and reliability. Possessing less horsepower does have an advantage for commuters; Suzuki claims the TU250 will give its rider 82 mpg. In stoplight street traffic, this might drop to the 50-60 mpg range. Even so, this level of fuel economy surpasses even hybrid electric cars such as the Prius. A five-speed constant mesh manual gearbox supplies the shifting. As with the engine, the transmission is designed to be forgiving and user-friendly.
