2008 KTM XC Review

KTM is an Austrian motorcycle manufacturer that specializes in road race motorcycles and dirt bikes. One of the more popular lines of off-road bikes produced by KTM is the XC-Series. If you’re looking for a quality dirt bike for fun or competition, you’ll definitely want to consider adding the KTM XC line to your list of possibilities.

You’ve got a lot of choices when it comes to the XC line, from the casual 65cc, two-stroke engine model to the monster 530cc, four-stroke, with a lot of options in between, a total of 15, to be exact, so there should easily be an XC that fits your individual needs and style.

The KTM XC 250 F is redesigned with a new chassis and new bodywork to improve performance. Since this was already a pretty powerful bike, with a 249.5cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine that can get you up to 80 mph if need be, these improvements have made the KTM XC a fairly formidable bike in its class.

KTM XC bikes are designed to intimidate other riders on the track, and the 2008 KTM XC does so admirably, with an orange and black paint job that can’t be ignored and generally aggressive styling.

If you’re looking for a little edge to help you win your next competition, a KTM XC can definitely do the job, especially the models with the larger motors. One thing you’re sure to appreciate is the great traction you get through these bikes. Traction is a top priority when dirt biking through tough cross country terrain. You don’t want to get mired down when trying to make turns through the mud, and you generally won""t on a KTM XC.

The steering is generally snappy, although you’ll find quicker steering on some other dirt bikes in the XC’s class, and these bikes have a nice, light, ergonomic design that you’ll appreciate when flying over the bumps. Shifting is smooth and efficient with a motor linked to a five-speed manual transmission that can handle plenty of changes as you adjust to the demands of your ride.

The standout of the 2008 KTM XC line is probably the KTM XC 250 F, which retails at an MSRP of $6998. Its engine is extremely responsive, and you get a lot of power out of this 250cc displacement engine. Whether you’re just taking an off-road joyride, or racing on a track full of hills, dips and sharp turns, you’ll almost always find the KTM XC 250 F is up to the challenge. That being said, the firm suspension is probably better for that bumpy track than the open trail. On top of all this, the XC 250 F handles like a dream. This bike practically rides itself if you want to let it. Of course, that also means that in the hands of a skilled driver, there are few limits to what you can do. Cap off the performance advantages with strong brakes that’ll help you take those tight turns with relative ease and manage downhill speed beautifully.

If you’re looking for a smaller bike, the KTM XC 105 will probably meet your needs. This one comes with a 2-stroke motor that isn’t as powerful as others on the line and features a six-speed, rather than a five-speed transmission. With a resilient suspension, good handling, and fantastic brakes, however, this bike will definitely still give you a fun ride.

If you’re interested in purchasing an XC, take the time to figure out exactly what your bike needs are. There are so many great choices in this line, you want to consider all the options and find the one that’s just right for what you ride for.
