Named after the Italian phrase for ""many roads,” the Ducati Multistrada made its debut in 2003. The second model year, 2004, followed afterward, with no changes as it tried to establish the nameplate as a multi-purpose ride. The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the '04 Multistrada is $11,995.

The 2004 Ducati Multistrada is officially referred to as the 2004 Ducati Multistrada 1000 DS, due to its engine displacement of 992 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 1,000 to classify it as a 1000cc bike). The engine itself is a liquid-cooled L-twin (two-cylinder) Desmodromic, which provides 84 horsepower at 8,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 62 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 RPM. Two intake valves go on each cylinder. The compression ratio of the engine is 10 to 1, and its bore and stroke is measured at 3.7 by 2.84 inches. The engine of the ‘04 Multistrada is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

Available in black, red or silver, the 2004 Ducati Multistrada was marketed as a bike that can handle driving on all sorts of terrain, including paved road, sand and snow. It has a better-than-average suspension that consists of an inverted fork and single-sided swing arm. Also, great braking ability is provided by a dual disc brake in the front and single disc brake at the back.
