Brea, Calif. - June 7, 2010 - Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Tommy Hayden scored a hard-earned win on Sunday during the second race of the Road America doubleheader in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Hayden now leads the AMA American SuperBike class in points after being in second place since the first race of the season. His consistency on the track and his exemplary racing talent put him at the top of the series at the halfway point of the season.

Hayden started the day off on Sunday hoping to be on the winning end of the battle after narrowly missing the win in a photo finish on Saturday. Hayden and his crew made very minor changes to their Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 for Sunday, and after a short practice session you could tell Hayden had the utmost confidence in his race machine. "My bike was setup well and I thought I'd have that little extra advantage today," Hayden said. "It feels good to be on the winning end of the battle today." Hayden pulled away from the pack in a two-man fight for the lead early in the race and stayed in second place for most of the race. He was patient and calculating, and made a prime move near the end of the race. On the last turn before the finish line, Hayden twisted the throttle of his GSX-R1000 and took it across the finish line first. Hayden has been second in the points chase since the first race of the season, but with Sunday's amazing victory, he is now atop the leader board. "As much as I'd like to be 60 points ahead and cruise to the end of the season," Hayden said, "I think being close in points helps the series and makes it more interesting. We've put together a good bike and I feel good about the rest of the season."

His teammate Blake Young started off the front row of the grid on Saturday hoping to improve on his third-place finish on Saturday. After the two leaders pulled away from the pack, Young pushed hard to catch up all while battling other racers. Young fought hard but ended up in seventh overall after a bobble mid-race. Young is still fourth in overall points and is looking forward to the next round of racing at Mid-Ohio July 16-18.

The GSX-R1000 was on the podium four times this weekend at Road America. Hayden and Young finished 2-3, respectively, on Saturday. With Hayden's win on Sunday and the third-place finish of Jake Zemke aboard his National Guard Jordan Suzuki, the GSX-R1000 earned more points than any other motorcycle in the AMA American SuperBike class. Look for the GSX-R to dominate once again at Round 6 of the series in Lexington, Ohio.
