2009 Vespa GTS Review

A tribute to the iconic Vespa Grand Sport, which turned the scooting world on its head 50 years ago, the 2009 Vespa GTS 250, with its 12-inch alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes, and liquid-cooled engine, marries technical advance with proven style to once again place Vespa at the top. The 250cc equipped model is the only 2009 GTS available in North America. The 125cc and 300cc equipped models are available in Europe only.

The 2009 Vespa GTS, with its 250cc, high-performance, four-stroke, four-valve engine is capable of speeds in excess of 76 mph, while boasting responsive handling both in town and on the highway, along with an estimated fuel economy of 65 to 75mpg. The continuously variable transmission is engaged by way of an automatic centrifugal dry clutch.

The performance package included with the 2009 Vespa GTS is rounded out by a single-sided trailing arm front suspension with dual chamber hydraulic shocks that feature a coaxial spring suspension up front and a helical spring, adjustable, four-position preload suspension with two dual-effect hydraulic shock absorbers in the rear.

The body of the 2009 Vespa GTS is an updated version of the classic Vespa style, combining performance gains made over its 50-plus-year history designing the most iconic scooters in the world, together with the design elements that remain instantly identifiable. The Vespa GTS employs dual headlights, with one placed midway down the shield, adjacent to the horn as a style element. It’s saddle is double-stitched leather, tipped into a new, more ergonomic riding position for style and comfort, which lifts with the push of a button to reveal an under-seat storage compartment that perfectly complements the standard rear luggage rack. An impressive digital and analog combination of dash indicators and controls completes the package. Available colors are Dragon Red, Midnight Blue, Cortina Gray, and Shiny Black.
