2008 Kymco Agility Review

Kymco may be the best-known powersport vehicle manufacturer in the world when it comes to reliable, affordable scooters that are great for newer riders. They also have a wide variety of bikes to choose from. For this reason, if you spot the Kymco Agility, which comes with a 50cc or a 125cc engine, you may be drawn to it right away. You should be aware that the Agility is actually of Chinese descent. This doesn’t mean you won’t be impressed with the quality, but it also might not be the Kymco scooter you’re used to.

One of the biggest plusses of the Kymco Agility, one that cannot be ignored, is the price point. The 125 retails at an MSRP of $1999. If you’re paying less than $2000 for a scooter, you’re generally expecting to walk away with a vehicle with a 50cc engine, or one that will fall apart as soon as you get it home. That’s not the case here. With the Kymco Agility, your two grand buys you an air-cooled, 125cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine that will get you right up to driving speed fast, and you should be able to cruise the streets at around 40 mph without a problem, with a top speed of around 60 MPH. With front disc and rear drum brakes, the Agility doesn’t exactly stop on a dime, but the brakes are responsive enough to stop you safely, even in situations where the stop is somewhat sudden.

As far as the design of the instrument panel, the dash display will work for some and not for others. The large speedometer is large and centrally placed, so you’ll have no problem seeing how fast you’re going, but it somewhat dwarfs the other gauges and indicator lights. On the other hand, the mirrors are quite well positioned, so you should have no problem seeing what’s going on behind you.

Storage space on the 2008 Kymco Agility is pretty good, and you should be able to fit your helmet and a few other items in the under seat storage area without too much difficulty. There’s also a big rear rack you can use to add more cargo.

There’s no question that the Agility is a comfortable bike; it has a forgiving suspension and a wide, padded seat. Unfortunately, there are a lot of ways in which it also looks and acts like a comfortable bike. While some may find all the flat black trim and center panel mounted headlight to be hip, in general, you will probably find that the Agility’s appearance is not all that exhilarating compared to some other scooters, and you can definitely find scooters with more power.

As far as value for the money, the Kymco Agility 125 is pretty tough to beat, even without some of the frills and features you might find on other scooters. It doesn’t feel or look cheap, and it generally performs well under normal scooter driving conditions. At the Agility’s price, it’s a great choice for a first scooter for someone who isn’t sure how dedicated they are to scooting, or for a younger rider who might go through scooters a little more quickly. The Kymco Agility 50 also performs well, but at the Agility’s price, it’s definitely worth it to spring for the 125cc engine, unless you’re really concerned that that will be too much power for you, or you’ve been saving your allowance to buy a scooter and need to buy the cheapest reliable model you possibly can.
