2008 Hyosung Rally Review

Introduced in 2007, the Hyosung Rally scooter entered the following model year (2008) without any changes. Its manufacturer – South Korean conglomerate Hyosung Corp. via its motorcycle manufacturer S&T; motors – set the MSRP (Manufacturer""s Suggested Retail Price) of the scooter at $1,699.

Available as a gray or red scooter, the 2008 Hyosung Rally is officially known as the Hyosung Rally SF50R. It is partly named after its engine displacement, which is measured at 49 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 50). The letter ""R"" stands for ""Rally,"" meaning that Hyosung designed it with racing pretensions.

The engine on each 2008 Hyosung Rally is a two-stroke air-cooled single-cylinder engine, with a reed intake valve configuration and a 14-millimeter carburetor fueling it. The bore and stroke of the engine is measured at 1.61 by 1.47 inches (41 by 37.4 millimeters), and it has a 9.2-to-1 compression ratio.

Each 2008 Hyosung Rally engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission, or CVT. This type of automatic gearbox chooses from an unlimited number of gear ratios to ensure that the engine runs more efficiently; this translates into an enhanced fuel economy. Each scooter has a fuel tank with a peak capacity of 1.3 gallons (4.8 liters).

The 2008 Hyosung Rally relies on a front disc brake and a rear disc brake for its stopping power: not as good as all-wheel disc brakes, but certainly better than all-wheel drum ones. The wheels measure ten inches and are made of aluminum. For the suspension, the 2008 Hyosung Rally has a telescopic fork at the front and a single-sided swing arm with shock absorber at the back for ensuring a smoother ride.

Each 2008 Hyosung Rally is made of steel: implemented for a solid fit and finish. Covered in plastic, the scooter is a half-fairing ride, with fenders and a center parking stand. Each 2008 Rally has a two-piece vinyl seat that can accommodate up to two people.

For digital instrumentation, each 2008 Hyosung Rally has a trip odometer, speedometer and fuel level warning gauge. Storage space consists of a rear rack, under-seat and lockable storage, and an area for storing a helmet. A halogen headlight and a pair of rearview mirrors are added to aid the driver in visual perception during driving.

The 2008 Hyosung Rally measured 72.4 inches (1,837.9 mm) in length, 25 inches (635 mm) in width and 43.7 inches (1,110 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 50.6 inches (1,285.2 mm). Ground clearance and seat height for the scooter are measured at 4.9 inches (125 mm) and 29.4 inches (745 mm), respectively. The dry weight of the 2008 Rally is 198.4 lbs. (90 kilograms).

The 2008 Hyosung Rally shares most of its components with the slightly less expensive 2008 Hyosung Prima scooter. However, the 2008 Rally is lighter, has a few more features and is rally-inspired. For people who need a basic yet no-frills scooter with considerable storage space and moderate performance, the 2008 Rally is an acceptable purchase.
