2013 Suzuki GW250 | FIRST LOOK

The quarter-liter displacement category is getting downright crowded lately, with multiple new models from Honda and Kawasaki creating excitement in American showrooms and streets. Now Suzuki is jumping into the 250cc fray with the all-new GW250 standard, which will be offered for sale stateside as a 2013 model. Featuring modern styling, a comfortable, upright riding position and a liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that promises both peppy acceleration and frugal fuel economy, this new model will be a welcome alternative for beginners or economy-minded experts who are looking for a naked alternative to mini-sportbikes like the Honda CBR250R or Kawasaki Ninja 300.

[The fuel-injected, single-overhead-cam twin utilizes long-stroke engine geometry to favor low-end torque, and features a coupling-type crankshaft balancer to eliminate excess engine vibrations and a silent-type cam chain for smooth, quiet operation. An in-chamber exhaust catalyst and a pulsed-air injection (PAIR) system cut emissions and make this big as easy on the environment as it will be on your pocketbook.

The semi-double-cradle chassis is designed with neutral geometry for light, agile handling, and KYB suspension features seven-step rear preload adjustment to accommodate bigger riders or passengers. Brakes are disc-type front and rear, though there appears to be no ABS option, unfortunately. Suzuki had not announced pricing or delivery dates at press time, but we will keep you posted as soon as this information becomes available.
