2018 Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 Dyno

We check out Husqvarna’s single-cylinder streetbike’s performance numbers

The 2018 Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 has a starting suggested retail price of $5,600 and is available in just one color—whitish silver. Powering this Swedish machine is a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-stroke 373.2cc engine similar to the one found in the 390 Duke and RC390 of Husqvarna's parent company, KTM.

We ran the Vitpilen 401 on our rear-wheel dyno in fourth gear to determine peak output from the single-cylinder. We documented 41.4 hp at 8,740 rpm and 26.4 pound-feet of torque at 6,880 rpm.

Compared to the last KTM RC390 we tested, the Vitpilen 401 produced 3 fewer hp and 2 additional pound-feet of torque. Husqvarna says this bike has been tuned for urban performance, which means more power lower in the rev range. To achieve that, a new intake, exhaust, and fuel mapping were applied.

"KTM actually managed to add two more pound-feet of torque through refined ECU tuning, a larger airbox, and an updated (and better looking) exhaust. Midrange power feels strong, and with a dry weight that's just shy of 330 pounds, the bike's power-to-weight ratio is about as good as it gets in the small-displacement category."—Corey Alexander
