Who Knew Honda Had Another X Machine For US?

How wrong we were to think Honda's 2016 model lineup was complete, headlined by the all-new Africa Twin. Instead, Honda will add another X model to the line, the VFR1200X , known as the Crosstourer in other parts of the world. Based on the basic VFR1200F platform , the X goes all BMW GS, rolling on ADV-sized laced wheels, which are the "older" sizes of 110/90-19 front and 150/70-17 rear, not the larger tires popular on the current BMW GS and KTM Adventure bikes. The VFR-X also retains the F's single-sided swingarm and shaft final drive, and is clothed in adventure-y plastic.

The VFR1200X's 1,237cc V-4 hangs from a twin-spar aluminum frame. Honda isn’t saying if the engine is in the same spec as the F model, which makes about 145 hp at the rear wheel. Honda also isn't listing weights, but in other markets the Crosstourer tips the scales at just over 600 pounds with the 5.7-gallon tank full of, er, petrol. As with the Crosstourer, our VFR1200X will come with a six-speed manual or six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission automatic. Honda’s Combined ABS will be standard as will Honda’s Selectable Torque Control, which provides three levels of torque output and sets the traction control’s thresholds.

Prices have not been set, and it's not clear that American Honda will bring in the "adventure" packages it sells in other markets, made up of hard luggage, bash guards, driving lights, and other ADV-ish farkles. Honda says the VFR1200X will roll onto our shores in May 2016.
