Intro

The 2008 Schwinn Newport 50 scooter is a city scooter made to ride the streets around town in comfort and style. It has more features to accommodate comfort and ease-of-use so running errands, commuting to and from work or riding to a friend’s house is more relaxing than before. The Newport 50 scooter uses a single-cylinder, four-stroke engine produces approximately 2.7 horsepower and 4.8 lb-ft of torque. This is not made for highway speeds or quick acceleration however it is a great city scooter and with fuel economy of nearly 100 miles per gallon (mpg), this scooter is very cost effective. The engine is also a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) set up that sends air to the engine block in consistent and precise amounts for an optimal fuel and air mixture ratio.

The Newport 50 uses a continuously variable transmission to shift gears flawlessly and with ease. The absence of a clutch makes this scooter much more user-friendly and easy to ride since the scooter shifts gears automatically, ridding the needed of the bulky clutch. The suspension and chassis are paired together very well to give the rider more handling and control than in other scooters. It uses a one inch front telescopic fork and a rear single sided swing arm with one shock absorber that absorbs most bumps and dips you will see on city streets. The Newport 50 is a quality scooter with all the comfort and amenities needed on an 50cc scooter.

Accessories

The Newport 50 can be retro fitted with a full windshield that is made from top of the line, poly carbonate plastic for maximum impact resistance. This windshield will keep you upper body protected from dangerous debris and wind blast when riding at higher speeds.
A rear metal rack made from aluminum can be installed to the rear of the scooter. The metal rack comes standard in a chrome finish and is used only for lightweight storage and storage of items that will be driven shorter distances.
Many of the smaller parts of the scooter are easily replaced for maintenance reasons or to add new paint matched or chrome parts to help make your Newport 50 unlike any on the road. Some of the interchangeable parts include parking lever, brake lever, handlebars, handlebar mounting clamps, handlebar mounting clamp covers, handlebar ends and mirrors
A top case can be installed to the rear of the scooter that is weather resistant, hard locking with a separate key, and has storage capacities of 6.6 gallons up to 9 gallons. This top case is ideal for those in need of extra storage space in addition to the amount that already comes standard underneath the driver's seat.
A passenger backrest made from leather or vinyl and ultra-soft inner material provides much more support than the stock back rest. It is positioned higher than the stock back rest for extra lumbar support and promotes proper posture while riding.
The Newport 50 should be covered with a general dust cover if it is going to be stored in a covered area such as a garage or covered parking where it will mainly be subjected to dirt and dust. If it is going to be stored outside, perhaps on the street, then it should be covered by a premium dust cover made from waterproof material with reinforced stitching to provide superior protection from rain, snow, dirt or mud.
