2011 Peirspeed Laser Review

Intro

The 2011 Peirspeed Laser R5i is a 50-cc scooter that nicely combines sporty riding along with daily practicability. It comes with a high-performance, 49-cc, two-stroke engine with a Mikuni carburetor for cold weather use. The fully automatic, V-belt continuously variable transmission offers easy operation and power at the twist of the throttle. The engine itself is peppy and offers great off-the-line acceleration.

The scooter comes with an inverted fork front suspension and swing arm rear suspension with dual coil-over shock absorbers for a stable yet sport ride. The storage space underneath the seats offers enough space for a full face helmet, which is pretty standard for a scooter of this size. Nevertheless, there are some design elements that makes the Laser R5i stand out among the wide range of 50-cc scooters in the market today. It has racing aluminum footrests and aluminum wheels with polished lips as standard, which are pretty rare to find in a budget scooter. These design elements obviously show off the sporty nature of the scooter itself, and they are great touches.

The 2011 Peirspeed Laser has a very conventional European styling, but the black plastic elements in front and around the body add to the sporty appeal of the scooter. The Sport Suspension system mentioned above offers excellent handling characteristics, giving the rider great control over the scooter. Stability is improved even further by the aluminum wheels. For a low-priced scooter, the Laser R5i is a very tempting package. The higher-end R9i, which is available with a more powerful, 151-cc, four-stroke engine, offers even better performance. However, the R5i should be good enough for most purposes and it offers an unbeatable fuel economy of 100 miles per gallon (estimated). Simply put, the 2011 Peirspeed Laser is a sporty, high-quality scooter available for a very reasonable price.
