BMW’s G650GS and K1300S Discontinued For 2017

Rumors that BMW will axe the G650GS and K1300S from its lineup in 2017 are true. While we weren't able to get official confirmation from BMW North America personnel (we called, but they're all out for the holidays) we did touch base with a local dealer that confirmed that both bikes are to be discontinued.

The 650 single has been in existence in one form or another since Y2K. BMW's smallest GS for over 16 years, the G650GS is being phased out after poor sales, competition from the F700GS, and the anticipated appeal of the new G310GS, which will be a smaller, lighter, more affordable entry into the GS world.

Also heading to the gallows is the K1300S, BMW's answer to gentleman's express bikes like Honda's VFR1200, Triumph's Sprint GT, and Suzuki's Hayabusa. Once one of the fastest and most high-tech (it was one of the first bikes with electrically adjustable suspension) motorcycles available, the K-bike has since faded into the shadows of a crop of similarly powerful and comfortable (and less expensive) sport-tourers. With bikes like the S1000RR and the new R1200RS already in its lineup, its easy to see why BMW opted to let the K-bike go.
