SCminiGP Youth Rider Invited to MotoGP Rookie Tryouts

Does this 15 year-old Redondo Beach resident have what it takes to become the next Nicky Hayden?

Taking the first step to becoming our next Nicky Hayden, 15-year-old SCminiGP racer Drew Price has been invite to attend the Red Bull Rookies Cup Run Off, a worldwide roadracing talent search for 13- to 15-year-old kids, in Valencia, Spain August 28th - 30th.

Price, a factory-sponsored Blata pocketbike racer, is challenging for championships in a variety of SCminiGP series classes on his Blata Elite 14R and Honda NSR50. Riding since he was 3 years old, Price clinched the Junior Championship and Rookie of the Year honors in 2004, his first race season.

Upon hearing the news, the Redondo Beach, California native was excited, but cautiously optimistic, "This is a great opportunity. I just want to thank the people who have supported me over the years and let them know that I'll give it my all. Regardless of the outcome, the learning experience will be the best part." SCminiGP President Josiah Taulbee said "This is a proud moment for our youth program--which is designed to help create opportunities like this--and Blata, which has helped support Drew from the beginning."

After suffering a huge financial setback when its bikes and race gear were stolen at the beginning of the season, the Price family is facing another, more immediate challenge--getting Drew to his cross-continental try-out.

Due to a late invitee announcement from Red Bull, the Price family has just two weeks to raise $5000 for their expenses. Those able to help to sponsor Drew can donate through PayPal at RC30@pacbell.net or directly to Andrew Price, 15424 Hawthorne Boulevard #205, Lawndale, California, 90260. In addition, Drew's father, Andy, has created a myspace.com page (http://www.myspace.com/redbullrookiescup) for all riders who have been accepted to the Rookies Cup Run Off. He hopes this will build emotional and logistical support to help with the challenges ahead. More personal regards can be emailed to DrewPrice@DrewPrice.com.

No matter what happens, the Price family is honored and excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to foster Drew's young racing career.
