Yamaha star Fontanesi extends WMX championship dominance

Yamaha’s Chiara Fontanesi continues to stamp her authority on the 2012 FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship. The Italian claimed both motos on her YZ250F at Arco di Trento on home turf last weekend for the third round of eight in the current campaign.

‘Fonta’ has been superlative so far this season and has not dropped out of the top two positions in the six motos run to-date. She has collected race wins in Holland and then Italy (two double successes) and with two triumphs from three heads the standings by a mammoth 46 points.

Arco di Trento, the hard-pack venue that recently entertained a stop on the 2012 Elite Italian MX Championship (a contest won by Monster Energy Yamaha Steven Frossard) was the happy hunting ground for the youngster who faced hardly any opposition – despite a bad start in one of the motos - in her run to another two chequered flags.

“I’m happy to win here and also with how both races went; I rode well in both and it’s a great feeling,” the Monster Energy-backed athlete said. “I’m especially pleased with the second moto because I got out in the lead and the ground was wet, slippery and technical. I had so much fun. It was nice to win in front of family and friends here and I want to dedicate this victory to a friend of mine who passed away recently.”

The Women’s series continues with meetings in Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Great Britain and Germany.
