Recall for Honda's New 2012 NC700X

Honda has issued a recall for a portion of the NC700X models due to faulty drive chains. According to Honda and the chain manufacturer, RK, some chains may contain outer links that were improperly heat-treated. This problem could result in stress fractures in the outer plates, causing chain failure and increasing the risk of a crash.

The NC700X is Honda's new low-cost middleweight (read 2012 NC700X First Ride) and both the standard and the Dual Clutch Transmission versions are affected by the recall.

No reports of broken chains have been reported to American Honda, but the failure of nine chains in Europe has brought this recall into fruition. Honda will notify the owners of the 1542 units potentially affected by the recall, and dealers will inspect and replace defective chains free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 8, 2012. Canada announced a recall earlier this month, with 440 units affected.
