And Marquez Takes the Lead

Fan Submission: A picture-perfect MotoGP moment from Indy

Capturing the perfect race photo is all about being in the right place at the right time. Everything has to be just right for one fraction of a second. And so it was for Natalino Monastra, a Motorcyclist reader and fan of MotoGP racing who had his DSLR camera aimed at the precise spot where Marc Marquez took the inside line for the lead. A press of the shutter release caught the Repsol Honda and Movistar Yamahas of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi going three-wide in the order that they would cross the finish line.

Monastra, an aspiring photographer, says that there was no other camera in the vicinity and he knew that he had the only shot of the lead change from this angle. The image was shot at a 350mm focal length at 1/320th, f5.6, ISO 160 with a Canon 1Ds.
