[AMA Hall of Fame dirt-track tuner Bill Werner had something special to show us at the Steel Shoe Fund endurance ice race: his 1976 _Motorcyclist _Magazine All Star Award, complete with commemorative jacket patch. Werner was recognized for winning that year’s AMA Grand National Championship—the first of three consecutive titles with rider Jay Springsteen—joining Kenny Roberts, Kel Carruthers, Malcolm Smith, Marty Smith and others in caricature. Roger DeCoster—then 500cc Motocross World Champion, now Red Bull KTM team manager—is the only 1976 All Star besides Werner who remains active in motorcycle competition.
