Downtown Johnson City to host Thunder in the Mountains Motorcycle Rally - May 6 - 9

(Johnson City, Tennessee) The Johnson City Convention & Visitors Bureau is excited to host the 3rd Annual Thunder in the Mountains Motorcycle Rally in beautiful Downtown Johnson City. Previously held in Jonesborough, the event had to be moved due to growing attendance. All bikes are welcome and expected attendance could be well over 6000. Several downtown streets will closed to accommodate our visitors; Spring, Tipton, along with sections of East Main, West Market, Buffalo and S. Roan Streets.

An extensive itinerary has been developed to attract a variety of riders, vendors and entertainment. Beginning Thursday evening with the Street Fights at Bristol Dragway with the "Run what you Brung" event. A "ride-in" will occur at WJ's Motorcyles on Wayland Drive in Bristol beginning at 5PM.

On Friday, escorted rides will be conducted from 11AM - 3PM to a variety of destinations. The "Snake Ride" developed for www.ridejohnsoncitytn.com will also be available. On Friday join bikes from across the United States at Smith Brothers Harley Davidson, a 4PM "ride in" with a police escort that will bring the entire group to downtown Johnson City. Opening ceremonies will begin at 5:30PM, which will include the blessing of the bikes from Fountain of Life Church. Friday evening at the main stage, Phil Bachman Scion will host the Battle of the Bands from 7:30 - 10:30PM.

Saturday, bikers can enjoy local food and merchandise for motorcyclist. A swap meet will be held from 9A-6P at Smith Brother's Harley Davidson on the Bristol Highway. Other events include a Poker Run, Bike Rodeo and headlining entertainment Benny Wilson on Saturday evening. Additional sponsors for the rally include: Budweiser and Pepsi.
