Bristol Core, a US supplier of muffler materials, established the Local Hero award in 2011 to recognize the hard working privateer riders who are the heroes of local motocross racing around the country. The award alternated between each class and after each round of the 2011 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship, the privateer rider putting down the fastest, non-qualifying lap time being selected to receive $275 for their efforts.

Per Bristol Core owner Morgan Curtice "Bristol Core enjoyed helping the privateers this summer and it was an honor to be associated with the MX Sports Lucas Oil National MX Championship series. We also appreciate MX Sports' Dan Reinhart supplying us with the Local Heroes' contact information."
