At Daytona in 1982, a Honda mechanic fettles a CB900F-based Superbike ridden by one Frederick Burdette Spencer Jr. (over mechanic's left shoulder). Spencer won the Daytona Superbike race, then left to go ride 500 GP bikes in Europe. At the time, AMA Superbike racing was made memorable by the emerging talents of such future roadracing world champions as Spencer, Lawson, Wayne Rainey and others; by the bikes' infarction-inducing unruly handling; and by the effrontery of the widespread cheating.
