2011 Triumph Sprint Review


The 2011 Triumph Sprint GT is more of a touring bike than a sports ride. It provides plenty of room for cargo, and it offers a luxurious ride. The updated version of the Sprint GT provides even better comfort and storage capabilities than past models. It features a 5.3-gallon fuel tank and an estimated fuel economy of 40 miles to the gallon. According to the manufacturer, it can ride up to 200 miles per full tank of gas, which is not bad at all. However, the curb weight is higher than most competitors at almost 600 pounds.

On the road, the Sprint GT is very much unflappable bike. This bike's extended wheelbase and extra heft are magnificent, but the expansion joints might still jostle the rider. The 2011 Triumph Sprint features reflector headlights and a computer display that transmits data through an analog speedometer and tachometer for better performance monitoring. The alloy perimeter frame rides very steady, and it is tastefully finished in black. Likewise, the wheels and several other items feature black finish as well, which gives the Sprint GT a very sleek look. Also featured is 8.2-gallon panniers, with a maximum capability of holding up to 16.5 lbs. per bag. Anti-lock brakes produce a high threshold of stopping power. One fault in this department is the long reach to the front brake lever. Both the front brake and clutch lever are adjustable to four positions, but there is a significant disparity in reach between the two.

Most noticeable on the Trump Sprint GT is a grunty motor that lets the machine pull away from a stop with poise and ease. Although the power-to-weight ratio is down from the Sprint ST, the engine still has enough torque to loft the wheel in first gear with a snap of the throttle or a little clutch slip. Power and torque have been boosted from past models as well. As for its handling manners, the Triumph leaves little to be desired. Turn response is suitably quick at any speed, and the GT proves to be much more agile than many of its 1300-cc and up competitors. The pricing may be a little bit steep, but the great gas mileage and fuel capacity make up for this.
