2011 Aprilia RXV Review


The 2011 Aprilia RXV is the most advanced off-road bike the Italian manufacturer has ever produced. Looking to its success on the Enduro racing scene, Aprilia has injected the new RXV with more racing technology than ever, with the result being an aggressive and gorgeous-looking bike that is more race-ready than its predecessors, and one that is capable of satisfying every level of rider.

For starters, unlike many other off-road bikes, Aprilia has outfitted its RXV with a powerful, 45.2 V-Twin engine that’s also one of the most compact of its kind. Coupled with an advanced ECU fuel injection system that features 38mm throttle bodies, the engine power can be instantly altered via the system’s switchable power mappings. Regardless of the riding conditions, good grip and reliable power on the Aprilia RXV is always just a button press away.

The 2011 Aprilia RXV is also lighter than its predecessors, thanks to its tubular steel trellis with forged aluminum side members. Built with rigidity in mind, the engine actually makes up an integral part of the bike’s chassis and acts as an effective load-bearing element. The variable section aluminum alloy swing arm also helps reduce the weight of the bike, while improving traction. Meanwhile, the inverted 45mm front fork suspension and calibrated rear monoshock do wonders to improve the RXV’s overall stability and control over all surfaces.

Braking is equally exceptional on the 2011 Aprilia RXV, thanks to a 270mm floating disc on the front and a 240mm stainless steel disc on the back. Nissin manufactures the bike's floating calipers.

As far as looks are concerned, Aprilia bikes can be hard to beat, and the 2011 RXV certainly lives up to expectations. The first things you notice are the razor-sharp fenders and super-lean body style. Trimmed of all excess details, the 2011 Aprilia RXV is beautifully minimalistic. Because of this, all of its elements are showcased, from the big shock absorbers up front, to the fat, chrome-tipped exhaust on the back. The bike’s iconic red, white, and black paint scheme plays perfectly with the brushed silver accents of its engine and deep black of its big, knobby tires. Seat height is a comfortable 39.2 inches off the ground, which may seem to be slightly high, but is actually lower than previous models. For an off-roader, the RXV has a decent sized fuel tank at 3.2 gallons.

Designed from the ground up to be the most race-ready production bike on the market, Aprilia has certainly succeeded with the 2011 RXV. Technically advanced yet simplistically fun and exciting to drive, the 2011 Aprilia RXV is sure to satisfy every type of rider.
