2005 Kymco Xciting Review

Taiwanese automaker Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd. (Kymco) introduced the Kymco Xciting in 2004, which means that the 2005 version represents the nameplate’s second model year. Carrying over the features from the debut year, the 2005 Kymco Xciting retained the scooter’s purpose: a slickly designed ride with sufficient engine power, good braking and handling prowess, and a long list of amenities to provide a comfortable yet exciting driving experience.

The Kymco Xciting was only available as one model for the 2005 model year. Officially named the 2005 Kymco Xciting 500, the scooter gets its numerical suffix from the displacement of its engine (498.5 cubic centimeters, rounded up to 500). Kymco set the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the 2005 Xciting at $5,999.

The engine on each 2005 Kymco Xciting is a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder unit, with a double overhead camshaft valve train and a bore and stroke of 92 x 75 millimeters (3.63 x 2.96 inches). Fueled by a carburetor, the engine is linked to an electric ignition for starting the bike. Paired with the engine is a Continuously Variable Transmission, which shifts through an infinite number of gears to make sure the engine performs at its peak, thereby improving fuel efficiency. Each 2005 Xciting has a fuel tank with a peak capacity of 3.4 gallons (12.8 liters).

The 2005 Kymco Xciting uses all-wheel disc brakes, which are installed on its pair of aluminum wheels. A telescopic fork at the front and a twin-sided swing arm with two shock absorbers at the back form the scooter’s suspension.

Available as an Orange or Silver scooter, the 2005 Kymco Xciting consists of a steel frame and full fairing, complete with fenders and a wind deflector. A one-piece vinyl seat with backrest provides enough space for the driver and a passenger. Digital instrumentation consists of a clock, speedometer, tachometer, trip odometer, and temperature and fuel-level warning gauges. A power outlet below the digital instrumentation enables an occupant to charge a mobile phone.

Under-seat and lockable compartments, as well as an area to store the helmet, constitute the storage space or capabilities of the 2005 Kymco Xciting. A halogen headlight and pair of rearview mirrors function to enhance the driver’s visual perception on the road.

Each 2007 Kymco Xciting has a wheelbase of 63 inches (1,570 mm), and the seat is set at a height of 30.3 inches (769.6 mm). The aluminum wheels on the scooter measure 15 inches at the front and 14 inches at the back. The dry weight of the 2005 Kymco Xciting is 473 lbs. (214.6 kilograms).
