2005 Kymco Super Review

The 2005 Kymco Super is one of the entry-level scooters that Taiwanese manufacturer Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd (Kymco) released for the 2005 model year. Available as a lone model, the scooter is officially known as the Kymco Super 9. Kymco gave the 2005 Kymco Super 9 a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $2,499.

Powering the 2005 Kymco Super is a four-stroke liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that displaces at 49 cubic centimeters and has a reed valve train. It has a bore and stroke of 39 x 41.4 millimeters (1.54 x 1.63 inches) and compression ratio of 7.2 to 1. Two types of starters – an electric and a kick one – are available for starting the engine, which is fueled by a carburetor.

Paired with the 2005 Kymco Super engine is a Continuously Variable Transmission, which promotes an enhanced fuel economy due to its access to an infinite range of effective gear ratios. A low-maintenance belt drive completes the scooter’s powertrain. Placed on each 2005 Kymco Super is a gas tank that has a peak capacity of 1.8 gallons (6.8 liters).

The 2005 Kymco Super uses all-wheel disc brakes, which provide greater stopping power than if it had an all-wheel drum braking system or front-disc-brake rear-drum-brake set-up. The suspension on the scooter consists of a telescopic fork and twin-sided swing arm with a rear shock absorber. Twelve-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in tubed tires go on each 2005 Super.

The 2005 Kymco Super has a steel frame for its solid construction, with fenders and an exhaust guard as covering or adornment. The scooter is available in a Blue / Black, Orange / Black or Red / Black color scheme, complete with a decal kit. A one-piece vinyl seat on top of the scooter provides enough room for the driver and a passenger. Kymco has a center stand and kick stand as options for parking the 2005 Super.

Instrumentation on the 2005 Kymco Super consists of a tachometer, speedometer and fuel level warning gauge. Under-seat and lockable compartments, in addition to a rear rack, constitutes the scooter’s storage space. Also included are a halogen headlight and a pair of side mirrors for enhancing the driver’s visual perception.

Each 2005 Kymco Super has a length of 73 inches (1,853.2 mm), width of 28 inches (711.2 mm), height of 47 inches (1,193.8 mm) and wheelbase of 51 inches (1,295.4 mm). The seat on the scooter is set at a height of 32 inches (812.8 mm), and the scooter itself has a dry weight of 234 lbs. (106.1 kilograms.)

The 2005 Kymco Super is one of the better entry-level scooters that Kymco released for the 2005 model year. It is far from the most advanced machine, but people looking for a used simple and practical scooter with decent performance may want to check out this one.
