At the 2008 Intermot Expo in Cologne, Germany, BMW General Manager Hendrik von Kuenheim told us the company's touring bike platform would be overhauled next, once the S1000RR sportbike rollout was complete. Von Kuenheim said to expect an all-new touring machine with "many cylinders, huge torque and a low seat." Though the touring capability of the Concept 6 shown here won't extend far beyond the local coffeehouse, its production-ready inline six-cylinder engine and chassis will almost certainly form the basis of a new luxury-touring bike to be introduced next year. Ben Spies played a starring role on the second day of MotoGP testing in Valencia today, the Texan producing another confident and assured performance on his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 machine.

A year of hard work finally came to an end for the Fiat Yamaha Team today with the last day of testing in Valencia. Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi finished the day first and third, signing off for the winter in strong form.

One day after sealing the Triple Crown of titles for 2009, the Fiat Yamaha Team was back at work in Valencia today looking towards the next season. World Champion Valentino Rossi and runner-up Jorge Lorenzo tested this afternoon and will continue tomorrow before finally getting the chance to take some time off. Lorenzo finished the day second fastest behind Casey Stoner and Rossi was just behind him in third.

The FIM have today announced that the 2010 Grand Prix events in France, Italy and Czech Republic will be held a week later than originally scheduled, whilst Great Britain swaps places in the order with Italy. The San Marino event will be held a week earlier.

Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo finished second and third in the season-ending Grand Prix of Valencia this afternoon, the ninth time the pair have shared the podium this season. It ensured that Yamaha won the Triple Crown for the second year running after Rossi took the Riders' title, Fiat Yamaha the Teams' and Yamaha the Constructors'. Today's result also sealed Lorenzo the runner-up spot in the Championship in just his second year in MotoGP. Between them the Italian and the Spaniard have taken ten wins and a further seventeen podiums, Yamaha's most successful year ever in MotoGP.

Ducati's not so secret "Strada Aperta" (open road) adventure tourer has officially been released, only it's not called Strada Aperta. It's actually labeled Multistrada 1200, repurposing the name from Ducati's previous adventure touring model and representing the next evolution of that machine's "many roads" concept. The next-generation Multistrada aspires to similar all-around ability, only amplified with a larger, liquid-cooled 1198cc engine and a laundry list of electronic attributes. Dirt-track racing is dead, or dying, say the critics, but you never would have known that at the Springfield Mile on Memorial Day weekend. The grandstands at the Illinois State Fairgrounds were packed and the entry lists were full to bursting, with 53 competitors signed up for the new 450cc Pro Singles class and 60 in the long-running Grand National Twins class. More impressive was the number of brands represented: six in the Singles class and eight in the Twins, the latter an all-time record.

It's a long way from Triumph's old home in Meriden, England, to Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats, but word traveled quickly when Texan Johnny Allen's Triumph streamliner set an outright motorcycle speed record of 193.3 mph in September 1955. Triumph immortalized Allen's achievement four years later by dubbing its latest, dual-carburetor 650cc twin the "Bonneville," complete with "The World's Fastest Motorcycle" decals.

Aggressive new equipment like the 1125RR-and cubic dollars pumped into an AMA Pro Racing program-are not the only evidence that Buell is dead-serious about repositioning itself as a performance brand. As a symbolic gesture, Buell has also deleted the entry-level Blast single from its lineup.
