DAYTONA FLAT TRACK

Halbert Win
DAYTONA BEACH, FL, MAR. 4 - Sammy Halbert showed why he was the 2009 over-all high point rider here in Daytona at round #1 of the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Series....he leads 2010!
Flat Track events have been held in Daytona Beach for more than 30 years. Flat Track racing during Daytona Bike Week was first held at Memorial Stadium, which was located near Daytona State College. In the late 1980s, the event moved to the newly constructed Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium. This year the race was held on the new Daytona Flat Track located at the World Center of Racing just outside NASCAR turn one.
Sammy was not the fastest man at Daytona until the Expert Singles Main event when he took his Yamaha YZF450- to the front on the new race track. Joe Kopp took the lead off the start with Halbert looking for a way to the front. After seven laps Halbert made his move on Kopp to take the lead.
"It means so much," Halbert said. "It's great to see this dream come true and put Yamaha on top of the box where it belongs."
Arai fastest qualifier was Josh Koch with Joe Kopp having the fastest heat race and the Expert Dash was won by Johnny Lewis.

Carver
In the Pro Singles final, Jeff Carver started the season with a win over James Rispoli and Stephen Vanderkuur. 2009 Pro Singles National Champion Brad Baker and JD Beach went down on the first start having to restart the main from the fourth row. Baker finished a strong fifth with Beach seventh. Beach is double duty as a road racer and flat tracker during Daytona Bike Week.
Round #2 takes place tonight.
