The romance of the modern-retro motorcycle is real. Not only are bikes like Triumph's Bonneville and Scrambler (and now the new Street Twin) and Ducati's many Scrambler variants selling like mad, people are even taking the whole scrambler idea to heart and taking their bikes off road.
AltRider’s president Jeremy Lebreton knows that if guys (and gals) are taking these low-slung bikes over rough terrain, they need some protection. So the adventure-accessories company is now offering various skid plates, radiator and oil-cooler guards, and other protective accessories that are precision made from thick, robust aluminum.
“We’re seeing a lot of motorcyclists who are looking to take these classically styled naked bikes into more extreme environments,” says LeBreton. “The original bike setup is great but our line of protection parts, luggage and other accessories will help turn these motorcycles into more capable adventure machines.”
LeBreton speaks the truth. As Motorcyclist's Senior Editor Zack Courts and Senior Road Test Editor Ari Henning discovered during a trip to Colorado last year, the Triumph and Ducati are pretty capable off-road bikes, but they could definitely benefit from some protection.
