Tommy Hays - Most Popular Rider Of 1941

From the January 1942 issue of Motorcyclist Magazine

The Complete ballot as cast by our clubs for the annual selection of the most popular rider has been completed and we are most happy to announce that the selection for 1941 was the late Tommy Hays of Dallas, Texas.

Leave it to motorcycle riders to show that sportsmanship and sentiment that is so prominent in our sport. This is a most fitting tribute to a fine young man who passed on at the height of his career and we feel that the actions of the clubs will mitigate to a small degree the loss sustained by his wife and will make a lasting memory and monument to just what the contest typifies, a real sportsman, a fine rider, a gentleman and most certainly a credit to the sport which he so well represented.

Tommy Hays’ name is added to that fine honor roll which we are building and he takes his place along with Ed Kretz, Babe Tancrede, and Ted Edwards as motorcycle immortals, by reason of the annual selection of the “Outstanding motorcycle rider.”

Due to the fact that Daytona has been cancelled, the presentation will be made to Mrs. Winona Hays at an early date.
