MC Tested: Fogtech Anti-Fog Wipes

By Ari Henning, Photography by Drew Ruiz

Individually packaged like BBQ-joint wet-naps, Fogtech wipes are a handy, cheap and effective anti-fog treatment. Each packet contains a pre-moistened wipe saturated with Moto Solutions' hydrophilic surfactant anti-fog concoction. All you have to do is tear it open and smear it on.

Smearing isn't as simple as it sounds. The first few times we applied the product to a helmet face shield, we ended up with some visual distortion due to ripples and eddies in the anti-fog layer. Getting a perfectly smooth, even application takes practice. Even with a ripple right at eye-level, however, the Fogtech treatment is a lifesaver in drizzly rush-hour conditions. The coating works well to suppress fog, keeping the shield clear and the rider's vision unobstructed in all but the most inclement weather. The package claims you can treat multiple face shields with one wipe, but to get the full benefits we recommend using one wipe per shield to ensure you are left with a sufficient coating.

A thorough application requires removing the shield, but a quick fix can be accomplished under a highway overpass or gas-station awning with the shield in place. That's the beauty of Fogtech: The packets are easy to carry and simple to use. Sold in boxes of five for about $5, you can't beat the price. Keep some at home, at work, in your jacket and in between the shell and lining of your helmet. That way you'll have it exactly when you need it.
