Shift Havoc Pants
Comfort and a casual, over-the-boot style set Shift's Havoc pants apart from the competition. Where some other denim riding pants have a stiff, scratchy waist section, the Havocs feature a flexible, narrow, lightly padded waist that falls naturally and comfortably like a broken-in pair of jeans. A slick polyester-mesh liner makes pulling the pants on feel like sliding your legs between satin sheets, and helps with bunch-free comfort and unrestricted movement, even when things get clammy as the ride heats up.
In addition to zippered hip pockets, there's a cargo pocket on the left thigh-convenient for frequently needed items such as your wallet or cell phone. Magnets in the pocket flap ensure that it always closes, even if you forget to pull the zipper. Styling cues are subtle, with the Shift logo embossed on the pocket and another smaller logo near the waist.
Okay, so the Havoc pants are comfortable and practical; what about protection? There's 1.0-1.2mm-thick leather in all the right places-at the hips, seat, knees and outside of the legs. Everything else is stitched from flexible, strong and surprisingly breathable 600-denier polyester. Removable, CE-approved armor cups the knees and upper shins reassuringly, with stretch panels above the knees and seat for flexibility. The combination of textile and leather also means the Havocs are lightweight, weighing in at just a hair over 4 pounds.
Off the bike or in full tuck, comfort is unrivaled. Protection may not be on par with heavier, thicker garments, but for casual riding the Havoc pants strike a balance that is hard to find.
