It was white, shiny, and very pretty. So many questions ran through my head as I looked at it on the showroom floor. Do I really want to do this? Is this the bike I want? Will I really ride it?
Eight years earlier I broke my back in an ATV accident. But I was in love with riding a bike. I took a two-day CLASS motorcycle school at Streets of Willow racetrack and left with nothing but a smile on my face. So I took the plunge and bought my first bike, a 2013 Triumph Street Triple R. I needed something with a standard handlebar because of my back, but I also wanted something I could take to the track for playtime, too. This bike was the best choice.
My bike and I covered 6,600 miles in six short months. We have ridden up and down California's beautiful Highway 1, along the winding roads by the famous Alice's Restaurant, and through the twisties of Del Puerto Canyon up to Lick Observatory—a must for any motorcyclist who visits California. We have also ridden Highway 4 over Ebbet's Pass in the Sierras, another favorite. To be a beginner rider and to ride safely through the curves of California is something I am really proud of. I am looking forward to many more miles with this motorcycle. I want to be one of those people who can say I have more than 100,000 miles on my sportbike.
I love motorcycles so much that I just acquired another one, a low-mileage 2008 Honda Shadow. I was looking for a commuter car to save miles on my truck, but commuting on a motorcycle will be much more fun! Now I have the best of both worlds. I can go through the curves really fast, or I can take my time and stop to smell the roses, just cruising along and watching the scenery pass by.
Each and every mile I put on my bike, whether it's back and forth to work or taking a ride through corners and curves, I can guarantee one thing—underneath the helmet there's always a smile on my face.
