Dyno
We were awed by the R1's ferocious Crossplane powerplant. It may have lost almost 9 peak ponies, but you'd never notice. Twist the stick and hold on tight as power builds like a tidal wave, cresting at 146.2 bhp. Touchy fueling at lower rpm makes the R1 difficult to manage in tight corners.
Ergos
A larger seat and a pleasant, pulsing engine are the only major differences between the R1 and the GSX-R, but that goes a long way toward making the R1 a comfortable commuter. The roomy cockpit is tainted only by an ill-placed exhaust pipe that roasts the rider's left foot.
