2007 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa
The 1299cc engine was all-new in 1999, both more powerful and more compact than the ancient GSX-R1100 mill it succeeded. Piston and valve diameters expanded while all other internal parts were slimmed down to reduce reciprocating mass. Digital, ram-air-assisted 46mm throttle bodies kept it on the cutting edge.
CHASSISThe older Hayabusa's aluminum twin-spar chassis was credible in '99 terms, but not nearly as technologically advanced as the bodywork or engine it carried. The geometry (24.2 degrees rake, 3.9 inches trail, 58.5-inch wheelbase) is dialed more for high-speed stability than razor-sharp handling.
If four is good, six must be better, right? Six-piston calipers were a signature Suzuki spec dating back to the mid-'90s. Braking performance is decent by '99 standards, but downright limp compared to de rigueur radial-mounts common in this century.
Thousands of hours were spent in the wind tunnel to make the Hayabusa the most aerodynamic motorcycle ever manufactured. The jowly fairing, deep-skirted front fender, integrated turn signals and bulbous tail hump were all painstakingly shaped to cheat the breeze and build big speed.
The first-gen Hayabusa makes power across a broad rpm range, producing 80 lb.-ft. of torque at just 3500 rpm and building from there. Stout midrange makes the original 'Busa feel untouchable on the street-until you ride the '08.

Hayabusa ergos are more sporting than touring. Seat-to-peg distance is tight for over-6-footers-Buell XB foot-rests can be installed to lower the pegs another inch. The seat-to-bar reach is likewise long, identical to a GSX-R1000 at 29 inches.
